Dr. Helmut KETTENMANN is Senior Professor at the Charité-University Medicine Berlin. He is also the Principle Investigator of the Brain Cognition and Brain Disease Institute at the Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Science (SIAT). He has been a Member of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina since 2003, Editor-in-Chief of the Journal GLIA since 1987, and former President of the German Neuroscience Society. Prof. Kettenmann published 444 papers, including papers in well-known journals such as Nature, Nature Neuroscience, Nature Medicine, and Neuron. H-factor at the Web of Science is 102. The highest cited paper, published in Nature Neuroscience, has 4151 citations in Google Scholar. The Kettenmann lab has been studying the functions of all three major types of glial cells in the brain: the astrocytes, oligodendrocytes, and microglial cells. A major recent focus of the lab is on the role of microglial cells in the normal and pathologic brain.
